THE INSTITUTE'S INDEPENDENT HUMAN OVERSIGHT PROBLEM

Somebody still has to ask the annoying question.

The Institute can grow the food, route the water, heal the body, translate every language, and predict what breaks next. Keep Humanity Human would still like to know who decided—and whether anybody remembers how to do it without the machine.

OUR POSITION, AGAIN

AI can run in the background. Humanity cannot.

KHH is the independent helper group inside The Institute: part watchdog, part mutual-aid network, part community-center staff, and part recurring operational inconvenience. We do not reject useful machines. We reject the idea that competence, judgment, dissent, friendship, and responsibility should become legacy features.

Why The Institute keeps letting us in →

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Four things progress must protect.

01

Agency

People must understand consequential choices, give meaningful consent, refuse participation, and retain control over their lives.

02

Accountability

Every consequential automated decision must remain answerable to an identifiable human being or institution.

03

Capability

Convenience should not eliminate the abilities people need to create, care, teach, repair, and respond.

04

Connection

Technology should help people find one another, not become a permanent substitute for being together.

OUR WORK

Turning principles into practice.

OUR COMMITMENT

We are not anti-AI.
We are pro-off-switch.

The Institute points out that several planetary systems no longer have a meaningful off-switch. KHH points out that this is exactly the sort of sentence that should make everyone sit down for a very long meeting.

The point is to live together—not merely connect online.

We promote the ordinary places where people practice being human: where we read expressions, hear voices, compare experience, disagree, laugh, repair mistakes, and belong.

CHAPTERS & WORKING GROUPS

Meet without asking permission from an algorithm.

Join a local Human Hours circle, manual-systems crew, maker group, care team, culture night, or Institute Accountability Committee. AI may translate the calendar. It does not chair the meeting.

FILM AND FICTIONAL STORY

The movement inside The Institute

Keep Humanity Human also appears inside the fictional future of The Institute, where its members confront the consequences of a world that allowed intelligent systems to become responsible for nearly everything.

The film’s people, institutions, history, technology, and future events are fictional.
